How to Use Shot Analysis Mode (including camera connection)

The Shot Analysis feature in TrackMan’s TPS software lets golfers pair precise launch data with high-speed video for a complete understanding of every swing. Using your iPhone, you can capture synchronized video, analyse detailed club and ball metrics, and even compare your motion to Tour professionals.

Below is a step-by-step guide on how to set up your iPhone, connect to Wi-Fi, record video, and use Compare Mode — including how to use Tracy, TrackMan’s built-in AI swing analysis tool.

camera connectivity is not required, but recommended*

1. Download the TrackMan Camera App (iOS Only)

To record and sync your swing video, you’ll need the TrackMan Camera App, which is only available on iOS.
Android devices are not compatible with this the camera feature.

Steps:

  1. Open the App Store on your iPhone.

  2. Search for “TrackMan Camera App” and download it.

  3. Grant all necessary camera and microphone permissions.

  4. Ensure your iPhone is updated to the latest version of iOS.

Once installed, this app connects your iPhone’s camera directly to the TrackMan system via Wi-Fi.

2. Connect Your iPhone to the TrackMan Wi-Fi Network

  1. On your iPhone, go to Settings › Wi-Fi.

  2. Connect to: SWING 24/7 GUEST

  3. Enter the password: GUEST247

  4. Wait for the Wi-Fi icon to confirm you’re connected.
Tip: Stay within 3–4 meters of the TrackMan radar for the strongest signal.

3. Link the Camera to TrackMan

  1. Open the TrackMan Camera App.

  2. Power on your TrackMan unit (TM4 or iO) and launch TrackMan Performance Studio (TPS) on your computer or iPad.

  3. When the app detects your TrackMan device, tap to connect.

  4. The iPhone video feed will automatically appear inside the Shot Analysis window in TPS.

4. Position Your Camera

  • Mount your iPhone securely on a tripod or stable surface.

  • Choose your camera angle:

    • Down-the-line (DL) – behind the target line for swing path and plane.

    • Face-on (FO) – perpendicular to the target line for body and impact analysis.

  • Frame your full swing arc from takeaway to follow-through.

  • Use 60 fps or higher for smoother playback.

  • Ensure the area is well-lit for best video clarity.

You’ll see a live preview from your iPhone within the TrackMan TPS interface.

5. Start a Shot Analysis Session

  1. In TPS, go to Practice › Shot Analysis.

  2. Choose your club and target distance.

  3. Confirm your iPhone feed is visible and synced.

  4. Begin hitting shots — TrackMan automatically logs all ball and club data while pairing each swing with video.

Every shot is stored with its metrics (carry, spin, path, face angle, attack angle, etc.) and the synchronized camera footage.

6. Using Compare Mode

Compare Mode allows you to review two swings side-by-side — your own from different sessions or against Tour professionals via the TrackMan Tour Player Library.

To use Compare Mode:

  1. In TPS, go to Shot Analysis › Compare.

  2. Select two swings for comparison.

  3. The view splits into two synchronized panels with video and data.

  4. Use slow-motion or frame-by-frame playback to analyse details.

  5. Review metrics such as:

    • Club Path

    • Face Angle

    • Launch Angle

    • Spin Rate

    • Attack Angle

    • Smash Factor

  6. Use overlay graphs or data tables to highlight the differences in performance.

Compare Mode is ideal for tracking progress, spotting trends, or seeing how your swing stacks up against elite players.

Tracy – TrackMan’s AI Swing Analysis Tool

Within Shot Analysis, you can also access Tracy, TrackMan’s AI-powered swing analysis assistant.
Tracy automatically analyses your recorded swing to detect movement patterns, positions, and potential areas for improvement — all powered by computer vision and machine learning.

To use Tracy:

  1. After recording a swing, select “Tracy Analysis” in the video options panel.

  2. Tracy will break down your motion into measurable checkpoints (e.g., setup, backswing, impact, finish).

  3. You’ll see AI-generated feedback on how your positions compare to model swings from top players.

  4. Use this insight to refine your setup, sequencing, and body motion.

Tracy runs automatically within the Shot Analysis video module — no additional app or setup is required.

Saving and Reviewing Sessions

  • Each swing, video, and Tracy analysis is automatically stored in your TrackMan profile.

  • Rename or tag sessions (e.g., “Driver – Oct 2025”, “7 Iron Baseline”) for easy reference.

  • Access your history anytime under TPS › Sessions › History.

  • Export your data in CSV format or share full sessions via the TrackMan Cloud with your coach or team.
